VentureSouth continues to support start-ups in the South

Since its founding in 2008, South Carlina-based VentureSouth has invested more than $75 million in more than 100 companies. They expanded into Tennessee last July.

VentureSouth, recognized by the Angel Capital Association as one of the top 10 angel investment groups in North America, provided $12 million in capital investment to 34 companies in 2022, according to this article from the Upstate Business Journal. Among those investments were several follow-ons with companies that have Tennessee ties:

  • Media company 6AM City which publishes Nooga.com in Chattanooga and Nash Today in Music City;
  • Spiffy, the North Carolina-based provider of mobile services for automobiles, acquired Pit Crew in September 2021, a start-up that was founded by several University of Tennessee, Knoxville alums; and
  • Iconic Moments, the NFT (non-fungible tokens) marketplace for museums and other cultural institutions founded in Chattanooga by Chris Cummings.

Since its founding in 2008 as part of the Upstate Carolina Angel Network, Greenville, SC-based VentureSouth has invested more than $75 million in more than 100 companies. The firm expanded into Tennessee last July with its first chapter launched in Chattanooga (see teknovation.biz article here).
