A number of East TN products nominated for “Coolest Thing Made in TN” contest
The public can cast one vote per day through July 29.
Each year, the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the Tennessee Manufacturers Association, and the UT Center of Industrial Services host the ” Coolest Thing Made in TN” contest to help promote the products made right here in the Volunteer State. The public can vote on the products now through July 29.
This year, 100 products have been nominated for the competition. And, teknovation.biz readers may be familiar with a handful of them.
Many of the inventions on the list are from large corporation like DENSO, Volkswagen, Colgate, and Duracell. However, we wanted to focus on some of the Knoxville-based start-ups and small businesses that also made the list.
ICEFLASK™ Wing Holster
Qore Performance, which was founded by Justin Li, invented the ICEFLASK™ Wing Holster. It was chosen among hundreds of entries from across the state, representing the creativity, hard work, and craftsmanship of Tennessee’s design and manufacturing community.
The piece holds the Qore Performance ICEFLASK™ military canteen against the body with military body armor to conductively cool warfighters and MWDs with water they already carry, preventing heat injuries where it matters most: defending our great nation.

MetaFlex Gloves
ATS Innovations invented the MetaFlex™ Glove. It is the latest innovation in hand health, combining compression with adjustable resistance bands to easily increase grip strength, improve finger mobility, and improve hand function.

The founder, Téa Phillips is based in Cookeville, and an active member of the entrepreneurial ecosystem across the state of Tennessee. She notably closed on a $500,00 pre-series round earlier this year with investment from Knxoville-based Three Roots Capital, Launch Tennessee, Arben Ventures, and UCIA.
Gas Centrifuge
Centrus Energy, based in Anderson County, entered the competition for their gas centrifuge, which is the highest performance uranium enrichment centrifuge in the world. Using over 40′ tall carbon fiber rotors spinning in hard vacuum our energy and national security is ensured.

The contest not only brings attention to all the cool things made in Tennessee, but also the outstanding career opportunities available in manufacturing—an industry that employees one in eight people in the state and contributes over $62 billion to the economy!
