Custom Foods of America is closing in on new facility, thanks to $25 million in collaborative support from Three Roots Capital and Truist
The new facility is touted to add more than 230 jobs to the Knoxville area, with operations commencing in the late fall.
Custom Foods of America (CFA) has been making food in Knoxville for four decades. Now, the company is multiplying its footprint with a new 200,000-square-foot manufacturing facility and 230 new Knoxville jobs. The new plant will be completed by summer and begin operations by the end of the year.
The project was first announced in 2023 with support from Gov. Bill Lee and the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development. The new facility gives CFA a separate, independent operation, which will ensure that its role in the national supply chain won’t skip a beat.

“We view ourselves as a service partner rather than just a manufacturer; our mission is to provide the safe, consistent, and innovative products that allow our partners to scale with absolute confidence,” said Mike Britton, CEO of CFA. “By commissioning this standalone facility, we are providing critical redundancy and capacity for top national restaurant chains, convenience stores, and food service venues, while proudly continuing our legacy of manufacturing right here in Knoxville.”
Regional financial institutions like Three Roots Capital and Truist collaboratively stood behind the manufacturing expansion to the tune of $25 million in incremental funding. Representatives from both organizations toured the new facility’s progress last week.

“Collaborating in this way to support the expansion of the world-class operation CFA has cultivated over its four decades in business, thereby amplifying the company’s ability to provide people nationwide with foods we all know and love, is an honor for us and a win-win for the community,” said Grady Vanderhoofven, the President and CEO of Three Roots Capital.
Harry Gross, the East Tennessee Market President at Truist, shared the sentiment.
“This investment reflects the kind of growth Truist is proud to support in Tennessee – helping a long-standing business create jobs and strengthen the economy. It’s a great example of what can happen when partners come together around a shared vision for growth,” he said.
CFA is now beginning the process of hiring positions for its new plant operations. They specifically want to hire local Knoxvillians for the roles.
