“Tech Hubs” grant awarded to group focused on domestic drug manufacturing

Six Tennessee entities are listed as participants in the Southeast Biotech Collaborative Strategy Development Consortium led by the University of Mississippi.

In a news release issued earlier this week by the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), we learned that several Tennessee entities are among the more than 30 public and private organizations participating in the Southeast Biotech Collaborative (SEBC) Strategy Development Consortium led by the University of Mississippi.

The partners were among 29 awardees of Strategy Development Grants (SDG) from the U.S. Economic Development Administration during its “Tech Hubs” competition. While SEBC was not one of the 31 designated hubs, the SDG grant is intended to significantly help the consortium be more competitive for future “Tech Hubs” funding opportunities.

In addition to UTHSC, other Volunteer State-based members of the group include UT, Knoxville; Oak Ridge National Laboratory; University of Memphis; Tennessee Valley Authority; and Epicenter Memphis.

The consortium’s focus is to advance biomanufacturing, biologistics, and precision population health to increase the supply of pharmaceuticals manufactured in the U.S.
