PYA’s Carol Carden named President-Elect Designate of American Health Law Association

Carden’s election as President-Elect Designate marks a historic milestone, as she is the first and only non-attorney nominated to this leadership role in AHLA’s history.

PYA, a nationwide leader in healthcare management consulting, certified public accounting firm, and publisher of Teknovtaion, is proud to announce that Carol Carden, Managing Principal of Compensation Valuation, Planning & Design, has been elected President-Elect Designate of the American Health Law Association (AHLA).

In this leadership role, Carden will help guide the strategic direction of AHLA, the nation’s largest educational organization devoted to legal issues in the healthcare field.

Carden’s election as President-Elect Designate marks a historic milestone, as she is the first and only non-attorney nominated to this leadership role in AHLA’s history. Her new role puts her on track to serve as AHLA’s President in the coming years. Currently, Carden serves on the AHLA Board of Directors, having previously served on and chaired the Women’s Leadership Council.

“Advancing today’s health law requires a breadth of diverse expertise and professional viewpoints,” said PYA President David McMillan. “Carol’s respected standing in the healthcare valuation and legal communities reflects her decades of rigorous work, her genuine commitment to advancing the profession, and her integrity as a leader. This well-deserved honor for Carol is a source of tremendous pride for her colleagues at PYA. ”

Carden, who leads PYA’s national compensation valuation practice, brings more than 30 years of healthcare consulting experience to the role. At PYA, she provides business valuation and related consulting services to a wide range of healthcare organizations with a primary focus on valuation, compliance, and compensation design. She also performs appraisals of businesses for mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and commercial litigation matters.

“I am honored to serve as AHLA’s President-Elect Designate,” said Carden. “The broad diversity in the incoming leadership positions allows AHLA to continue to serve as an authority for the health law community. I’m excited to apply my diverse experience to this new role and look forward to working with members to advance AHLA’s important mission.”

Beyond her leadership at PYA, Carden is a nationally recognized speaker and published author on healthcare valuation topics. She has contributed to the Wiley Finance Series book, “Financial Valuation: Applications and Models, ” and the “BVR/AHLA Guide to Healthcare Industry Compensation and Valuation. ”

Forbes named Carden a 2025 Best-in-State CPA and recognized her on the inaugural America’s Top 100 CPAs for Valuations list. Locally, she serves as a board member and treasurer of Leadership Knoxville and as a board member and treasurer of the Knox Education Foundation.
