You can’t see it, smell it, or taste it– but Eurofins can find it
An environmental testing lab in West Knoxville has spent decades on the front lines of the region’s DOE and DOD decommissioning missions and cleanup efforts, and the work is far from finished.
How do you know the air you breathe, the water you drink, and the grounds you live on are free of contaminants? Just because your eyes can’t see it, your mouth can’t taste it, and your nose can’t smell it, doesn’t mean the harmful effects of radiation, heavy metals, volatile organic compounds, or PFAS aren’t impacting your life, health, and longevity.
Thankfully, international environmental testing companies like Eurofins exist to identify and ensure the quality of the world around us is safe to live in.
Eurofins Environment Testing US operates a laboratory in West Knoxville off Middlebrook Pike. From the outside, you cannot tell the size and scope of the lab; the facility is deep, housing one of the largest (if not the largest) wet lab spaces in the city.
Kevin Woodcock, the business unit manager, has been at the location for nearly 30 years. He first encountered the lab as a customer in the 1990s. Later, he joined as a Project Manager and today oversees all of the lab’s business operations.
Eurofins’ global network also covers pharmaceutical testing, microbiology, biopharma, PFAS, microplastics, and industrial hygiene.
Specifically in Knoxville, the laboratory focuses on environmental testing. They have about 60 chemists and analysts on site to support that mission.
Kyan Weemaels joined Eurofins Environment Testing about two years ago as the lab’s project and business development manager. He said Eurofins Environment Testing has a broad scope of expertise to test all sorts of environmental hazards.
The invisible threats in the region’s soil, water, and air don’t disappear on their own. For the scientists at Eurofins Environment Testing in Knoxville, that means the work is far from over.
