New Cincinnati venture fund part of larger enterprise

Fireroad has three components - one focused on ideation, another that invests in existing businesses, and the newly announced venture fund.

Three veterans of the Cincinnati entrepreneurial community have joined forces to create a new fund named Fireroad Ventures that is closely aligned with another new entity named Fireroad.

“(It) is a new kind of holding company that launches, invests in, and grows companies,” the latter writes on its webpage. “We partner with mission-driven entrepreneurs and investors focused on long-term impact.”

There are three components to Fireroad.

  • Fireroad Foundry is where big ideas start.
  • Fireroad HoldCo invests in existing businesses and takes an active role in helping introduce technology, automation, and proven processes and systems that enable growth.
  • Fireroad Ventures invests in early-stage tech companies led by inspiring founders.

According to a recent article in Cincy Inno, the trio behind Fireroad Ventures includes Tim Metzner, Co-Founder of Coterie, who launched Fireroad four months ago. He has been joined in the venture fund by Astronomer Co-Founder Ry Walker, and Christy Johnson, former Chief Operating Officer of Ocean Accelerator. Metzner serves as Chief Executive Officer of the overall enterprise, and Fireroad Ventures has set a goal of raising $20 million. The goal for the fund is to make early, inception-stage investments in companies, while also serving as a long-term partner that can work hand-in-hand with founders.

The team touts the fact that it has raised a combined $450 million.
