Traxion Materials doubles down on East Tennessee with $5M expansion, 49 jobs
This Campbell County company is translating tire recycling and wholesaling into real jobs, real investment and real confidence in Tennessee's rural business climate.
On Aug. 6, Gov. Bill Lee, Deputy Gov. and Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter and officials from Traxion Materials announced that the company is expanding its footprint in Jacksboro, investing more than $5 million and creating 49 new jobs.
In addition to their headquarters just up the road in LaFollette, this project adds capacity to the company’s existing tire collection, shredding and Tire Derived Fuel (TDF) operations. They currently serve customers across Tennessee, Kentucky, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
“We’ve built our operation here in both LaFollette and Jacksboro because this region has the workforce, the location and the partnerships to support our steadfast mission. We’ve intentionally planted our roots at home in Campbell County, Tennessee, and this investment reflects our commitment to our employees and our community for the long haul,” said Greg Coleman, founding investor and Traxion’s President and CEO.
A multi-faceted economic development win
Beyond the investment and jobs this announcement creates, there’s three other main wins here.
One, it’s a nod to thriving rural businesses.
Per the SBA’s 2025 Small Business Profile, rural-owned businesses account for roughly 196,000 of Tennessee’s small businesses statewide. This serves a eminder of how much the state’s economy still depends on companies like Traxion choosing to grow in place.

Two, the company is making strides in innovative sustainability.
The company’s tagline is “driving the tire economy forward.” But more than that, they support a circular tire economy.
As a tire recycler, Traxion keeps second-life tire materials in productive use rather than in landfills or stockpiles.
Third, it’s a great example of a team effort.

Vice President of Economic Development at the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Heidi Smith shared that this announcement truly was a partnership between TVA, the LaFollette Utilities Board, TNECD, the East Tennessee Economic Development Agency (ETEDA), Campbell County Industrial Development Board and Campbell County.
