FoundersForge launches new program in response to new ordinance from Johnson City Commission
The ordinance changed the last call time from 3 a.m. to 1 a.m. EDT that has resulted in a loss of revenue.
The Johnson City Press reports that FoundersForge has started a program to help downtown businesses affected by the last call alcohol ordinance strategize new business plans to make up for lost revenue. The new initiative came after the Johnson City Commission changed the last call time from 3 a.m. to 1 a.m. EDT. Since it has been in effect, business owners have seen a drop-off in sales.
Deemed the Bar Support Program, FounderForge Executive Director David Nelson said the program came about after researching other areas that have faced similar issues and giving business owners a way to craft new ideas to make up for lost business.
“As every business owner knows, you have to adapt and change with the rules you have to play by,” Nelson said. “When those change, it can be very difficult to rethink your model. We’ve been doing a little bit of research and seeing what other communities have done when things changed on them, and other ways for bar owners, restaurants – anybody that is serving the late-night crowd – we looked at different ways, like, ‘What are people doing and how can we help them be successful?’”
