Weekend Roundup: PYA, Hospital news, and UTK wins

The Weekend News Roundup features stories related to local business, technology, entrepreneurship, economy, events, and innovation.

PYA recognized by USA TODAY

PYA has been named one of America’s Most Recommended Tax and Accounting Firms in the 2024 USA TODAY rankings based on surveys by Statista, an independent market research institute.

USA TODAY ranks firms in two categories: the 100 Most Recommended Tax Firms and the 100 Most Recommended Accounting Firms, and PYA is included in both lists. PYA is one of only four tax firms and one of five accounting firms listed in Tennessee and is the only ranked firm headquartered in Knoxville.

“For 40 years, PYA has built a culture of authentic service to our clients, so accolades such as the USA TODAY rankings are appreciated for recognizing that value,” said Marty Brown, President and Chief Executive Officer. “PYA team members are diligent about building relationships with clients and serving with a spirit of helpfulness. Because we Serve to Solve daily, our clients’ and peers’ recommendations reflected in the rankings are especially gratifying.”

PYA’s undeterred focus on excellent client service, relationship-building, and unparalleled expertise to address clients’ needs has led to many recognitions. The 2024 USA TODAY accolades come after two years of PYA being named one of America’s Best Tax and Accounting Firms by Forbes, a ranking also curated by Statista. In 2023, PYA was named an INSIDE Public Accounting (IPA) Best of the Best Firm, an IPA Top 100 Firm, and a Top 100 firm by Accounting Today.

The Award Goes To…

An East Tennessee hospital continues to rack up accolades for its architectural design. Covenant Health and Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System earned a Build Knoxville Award from The Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Tennessee. Christman Company helped construct the new 67,000-square-foot extension, which features an emergency room and diagnostic center, alongside medical offices, enhancing healthcare services in Morristown.

The project also recently earned an Excellence in Construction honor from the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Greater Tennessee.

Bringing Research to Life

The Knoxville business, education, and research community is invited to attend the first-ever University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) Postdoctoral Research Symposium on Friday, March 8. The goal of this inaugural session is to encourage partnerships between local business owners and UTK postdocs.

Each postdoc will present for three minutes on their area of research, and attendees will be able to ask questions and meet the researchers during a networking reception at the end.

The event will be in the Student Union Pilot Flying J Ballroom, Room 272.

The symposium will take place from 3 to 5 PM. If you would like to attend, you please register at this link. Parking permits can be secured with advanced notice.

UTK Ranks Among the Best

UTK has been named one of the U.S. News & World Report’s 2024 Best Online Education Programs.

The university was recognized for online learning excellence in four categories: Best Online Business Programs for Veterans, Best Online Master’s in Business Programs (non-MBA), Best Online Master’s in Engineering Programs, and Best Online Bachelor’s Degrees.

“The rankings reflect our commitment to provide outstanding learning opportunities and support to students in ways that fit their work and family commitments,” said Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor John Zomchick.
