WalletHub ranks cities on 46 key metrics that consider essential family dynamics

A recent ranking from WalletHub, the personal finance website, compared more than 180 U.S. cities based on 46 key metrics that consider essential family dynamics, such as the cost of housing, the quality of local school and health-care systems, and the opportunities for fun and recreation. How did Tennessee communities fare?

  • Nashville was highest ranked at #104.
  • Knoxville came in second at #126.
  • Chattanooga placed third at #133.
  • Memphis was ranked #180.

By comparison, cities in neighboring states placed as follows:

  • Virginia Beach was #19.
  • Lexington, KY was #26.
  • Charleston, SC placed #36.
  • Raleigh, NC was ranked #43.
  • Charlotte placed #58.
  • Huntsville, AL came in at #68.
  • Columbus, OH was #72.
  • Durham, NC placed #77.
  • Atlanta was #85.
  • Louisville, KY was ranked #88.
  • Cincinnati was #93.
