U News 1 | Belmont University announces Massey Chair of Entrepreneurship
North Carolina State University has closed the doors on its Jenkins MBA RTP (Research Triangle Park) campus after serving nearly 800 working professional students over 18 years.
From Belmont University:
The Jack C. Massey College of Business recently appointed Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship and Management José González as the Massey Chair of Entrepreneurship.
Funded from an endowment established in 1998 by Barbara Massey Rogers and the Jack C. Massey Foundation, the Massey Endowed Chair of Entrepreneurship fosters interdisciplinary entrepreneurship education, advancing the field through a holistic approach. The previously vacant chair honors the legacy and impact of its namesake, Jack C. Massey, who was both an inspirational champion for Belmont and the consummate entrepreneur.
“José is a perfect example of the criteria for awarding this chair,” Massey College of Business Dean Sarah Fisher Gardial said. “He has founded and run companies; his service to Nashville (especially regarding entrepreneurship in the immigrant community) is well known and respected; and he is a master teacher.”
From North Carolina State University:
After serving nearly 800 working professional students over 18 years, North Carolina State University has closed the doors on its Jenkins MBA RTP (Research Triangle Park) campus – opening new ones for the growing number of students who prefer online course delivery.
The RTP location was established in 2006 to cater to MBA students who didn’t want to commute to NC State’s main campus in Raleigh during rush-hour traffic on Interstate 40 after working all day. Students who worked at RTP stayed there to attend class.
Now Poole and other business schools are trending away from evening programs “because students don’t want to do that anymore,” Nichole Miller, an Assistant Dean in the Poole College of Management, says. Instead, what many working professional students prefer is Poole’s popular online MBA alternative. Those students also can choose a hybrid option, with online and on-campus components.
From Pennsylvania State University:
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) recently announced a grant award to Penn State to establish a Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC). The center will enhance training and counseling services for both new and existing, veteran and military spouse, small-business owners across the commonwealth.
Annie Hughes, the statewide Coordinator of the Invent Penn State LaunchBox & Innovation Network, will serve as the interim Director for the VBOC until a permanent candidate is hired. The center will be housed in the Penn State Office of Entrepreneurship and Commercialization within the Office of the Senior Vice President for Research and will be centrally located at Innovation Park at Penn State. VBOC will be integrated into Pennsylvania’s ecosystem of entrepreneurial support resources, including the Small Business Development Centers, Women’s Business Centers, SCORE, and Penn State’s statewide network of entrepreneurial resources coordinated through the Invent Penn State initiative.
From The University of Alabama:
At the Translational Research Injury Prevention Laboratory, a research participant opens the door of a Mercedes GLE 63S AMG and slides into the driver’s seat. She buckles her seatbelt, starts the car, and then the virtual experience begins.
The car, donated to The University of Alabama (UA) by Mercedes-Benz U.S. International earlier this year, is complete with everything except the engine. It is the centerpiece of a driving simulator capable of powerful, data-driven research on human behavior and driving.
“The interior is fully intact,” said Dr. Despina Stavrinos, Director of UA’s Institute for Social Science Research. “They see the steering wheel and instrument panel, and everything is where they expect it to be because it’s a real vehicle.”
A large, curved screen immerses the driver in a simulated environment. Another screen behind the car and LCD screens in the side mirrors ensure that when participants check their mirrors, they see the simulated environment. Controlled air even blows through the vents.
“When people know they’re being observed, they act differently,” Stavrinos said. “So the more immersive and high fidelity the instrument you’re using, the more natural behavior they’ll exhibit.”

From Northeastern University:
Northeastern recently broke ground on a new permanent campus on the Portland waterfront — a state-of-the-art, multi-building complex that will serve as a hub for education and research on artificial intelligence (AI) and other high-tech, high-growth fields. The former industrial site of B&M Baked Beans will include the Roux Institute, a graduate school and business accelerator that is expected to be home to 5,000 students, and the new Alfond Center. Both were funded by $100 million gifts – one from Maine technology entrepreneur David Roux, Co-Founder of Silver Lake Partners, and his wife, Barbara, and the other from The Harold Alfond Foundation.
