U News 1 | U of Arkansas announces new partnership with Blue Yonder

Georgia State University receives a $307,500 grant from the Truist Foundation to its Entrepreneurship and Innovation Institute.

From the University of Arkansas:

To help prepare the next generation of supply chain leaders Blue Yonder and the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas are announcing a two-year strategic partnership. Blue Yonder will be the first-ever title sponsor for the Master of Science in Supply Chain Management Program for the J.B. Hunt Transport Department of Supply Chain Management at the Walton College. The aim is to enrich both the education of Walton College students and Blue Yonder associates.

“We have an opportunity to help impact the pool of supply chain talent by partnering with the University of Arkansas, which is the #1 undergraduate and #2 graduate supply chain program in North America (as ranked by Gartner),” said Nathalie Carruthers, Chief Associate Success Officer of Blue Yonder. “This is a great opportunity for us to help infuse early career talent with the supply chain knowledge and real-world expertise they need to power the supply chains of tomorrow. We are excited to see where this partnership goes and how, together, we can impact and mold future talent.”

As a result of Blue Yonder’s sponsorship, the Walton College will:

  1. Leverage Blue Yonder technology as teaching tools for undergraduate classes;
  2. Collaborate with Blue Yonder leaders to support various supply chain courses, guest lectures, and curriculum;
  3. Involve Blue Yonder in the University of Arkansas’ Supply Chain Management Research Center; and
  4. Present at Blue Yonder ICON, the premier supply chain event, to companies from across the globe on early talent and internship excellence, research findings, best practices and more.

From the University of Alabama at Birmingham:

Nona Biosciences, a global biotechnology company located in the Boston area, has announced a licensing agreement with the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) to support the company’s research in B cell development.

Under the terms of the agreement, UAB, represented by Dr. James Kobie, has been granted a non-exclusive license to use Nona’s H2L2 Harbour Mice® platform to develop fully human antibodies. This will enable UAB researchers to pursue breakthroughs in B cell development work.

“Many transformative therapies originate from academic laboratories,” said Dr. Jingsong Wang, Chairman of Nona Biosciences. “We are excited to support UAB’s research efforts. This highlights our commitment to leveraging our antibody discovery technologies to bridge the gap between scientific discovery and real-world therapeutic applications, addressing unmet medical needs and benefiting patients worldwide.”

Kobie, an Associate Professor in the Division of Infectious Disease at the UAB School of Medicine, said, “We hope — through our research — to address fundamental questions about the human B cell receptor repertoire and develop monoclonal antibodies with therapeutic and diagnostic potential for infectious disease and oncology targets.”

From the University of Florida:

The Florida Semiconductor Institute (FSI), operated by the University of Florida (UF), is opening a shop in NeoCity, the massive technology-focused development in Kissimmee, FL.

FSI serves as a statewide hub for research, development, innovation, and workforce initiatives focused on cutting-edge semiconductor technologies. FSI’s expertise spans emerging materials, chip design, process development, microsystems, heterogeneous integration, advanced packaging, and cybersecurity, making it a pivotal player in advancing the semiconductor industry.

Business, government, and UF leaders cut a ribbon inaugurating FSI’s office space at NeoCity, marking the Institute’s growing footprint as a leader in semiconductor research and acceleration in Central Florida.

“FSI exists to serve the entire state, and NeoCity is the epicenter for scale-up of chip manufacturing, particularly around advanced packaging.  We envision a beehive of activity working with industry leaders SkyWater, imec, and TEL who are already here on site.  We also are planning for growth by attracting other chip companies and by incubating and accelerating new innovative startups,” said Dr. David Arnold, FSI’s Director and a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Florida.

From Georgia State University:

Georgia State University (GSU) student and recent alumni entrepreneurs are receiving new support thanks to a $307,500 grant from the Truist Foundation to the GSU Entrepreneurship and Innovation Institute (ENI). The grant will enhance the ENI’s award-winning business accelerator program, the Main Street Entrepreneurs Seed Fund (MSESF), which provides entrepreneurs in the university community with mentorship and seed funding to help start and grow new business ventures.

“Georgia State student and alumni entrepreneurs are, like the university itself, driven by innovation, and Truist Foundation’s generous backing of the Main Street Entrepreneurs Seed Fund will help their business ventures thrive and meaningfully contribute to the vibrant ecosystem of enterprises serving Atlanta and beyond,” said Georgia State President M. Brian Blake. “We appreciate Truist Foundation’s belief in GSU and the talented entrepreneurs it fosters, and greatly value their contributions to our mission of preparing Panthers to succeed academically and in their careers.”

The grant will strengthen the MSESF program and its ability to help a cohort of emerging entrepreneurs in the metro Atlanta area from January 1, 2025, through December 31, 2027. The selected businesses will be provided support and resources tailored to their needs, including mentoring, access to an entrepreneur in residence, and workshops designed to help launch products and services, increase revenue, and exceed key performance indicators. Businesses will also be supported with seed funding as they complete program milestones.
