
TN Valley Corridor Summit returns home for its 30th anniversary
The event that was birthed three decades ago will be held on May 29 and 30 in Oak Ridge.
In celebration of its 30th anniversary, the Tennessee Valley Corridor (TVC) will convene this year’s annual National Summit in Oak Ridge on May 29-30.
Hosted at the Y-12 National Security Complex at the New Hope Center, with a special anniversary dinner at the Oak Ridge Civic Center, the two-day event will feature an array of speakers, panels, and exhibits showcasing the TVC’s national leadership in energy, science, space, transportation, national security, workforce, and more.
When the first Summit was held three decades ago, what was dubbed the Republican Revolution had just occurred. Third District Congressman Zach Wamp has just been elected to the position previously held by Marilyn Lloyd, a Democrat. The newly minted Congressman launched the TVC annual series with the inaugural “Oak Ridge Summit” which had many of the festivities under a tent near the DoubleTree Hotel.
It was a challenging time for the Oak Ridge community and its dependence on all things federal. Much has changed in those 30 years, particularly in the first five years. Subsequent Summits were held in Chattanooga, Kingsport, Knoxville, and Huntsville, and a nonprofit organization was established to manage the event.
