State allocates $6 million to renovate historic TN buildings

The Historic Development Grant program assists in preserving and revitalizing some of Tennessee’s most historic and notable buildings.

The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) has announced the recipients of Tennessee Historic Development Grants, aimed at preserving and revitalizing historic buildings in the state. The program, approved by the Tennessee General Assembly in April 2021, will provide $5.7 million to renovate and preserve such buildings, encouraging job creation and commercial opportunities.

TNECD’s partnership with the Tennessee Historical Commission ensures that grant proposals maintain historical integrity. The initiative is expected to leverage over $13 million in private investment, contributing to the preservation of Tennessee’s historic landmarks and economic revitalization.

“I congratulate the communities receiving funding through the latest round of the program and thank the Tennessee Historical Commission for their partnership,” said  TNECD Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter.
