Several Tennessee ties to a new accelerator launching in Chicago

Gener8tor, which is CO.LAB's partner on the "Sustainable Mobility Accelerator," is running the program that also involves a sibling of ORNL's "Innovation Crossroads" initiative.

There are several Tennessee connections to a new accelerator that gener8tor is launching in Chicago.

For starters, it is the same organization that is partnering with The Company Lab in Chattanooga on the “Sustainable Mobility Accelerator.” The new accelerator launching in Chicago, however, is focused on improving climate resilience, not mobility.

Known as the “Great Lakes Resilience Accelerator,” it is a collaboration with Current, a Chicago-based water innovation hub; the “Chain Reaction Innovations” program at Argonne National Laboratory, which is a sibling of the “Innovation Crossroads” program at Oak Ridge National Laboratory; and Mazarine Ventures LLC, a venture capital fund focused on water concerns.

Gener8tor was one of 16 entities selected last month by the Department of Commerce and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to receive funding to improve climate resilience. Each organization received around $250,000 in development funding. All will get the chance to apply to Phase 2 of the Ocean-based Climate Resilience Accelerators program, which will award a total of $55 million to up to five of the programs.

As previously reported, three awardees among the 16 were located in the South – two in Florida and one in Louisiana. The Sunshine State recipients are Tampa Bay Wave Inc. for the “BlueTech|X Accelerator” and Seaworthy Collective for the “Upwell Collaborative Accelerator.” The Louisiana winner was The Idea Village for the “CLIMATEx Accelerator Program.”
