Serial builder on start-up ecosystems shares thoughts on key success factors

For most of our readers, today is probably a holiday with the Fourth of July falling on a Saturday. We saved this recent guest post from WRAL TechWire for today for several reasons. Don’t let the title mislead you. “Southern Coastal Cities Need to Attract More Resources for Entrepreneurs – Tech Talent Will Follow” is just as applicable to non-coastal cities in our view.

The column was written by Jim Roberts, Founder of the Network for Entrepreneurs (NEW) in Wilmington, NC. His credentials include two decades of building entrepreneur support organizations like NEW after stints in Charlotte, Asheville and Durham. Roberts is also the Founder of Wilmington Angels for Local Entrepreneurs (WALE), the 3 Sips of Advice video podcast and 91omg.biz for local start-up news at the North Carolina beach community. (BTW, like 865 referring to the Knoxville area code in the name of Innov865, 910 is the area code for the Wilmington region.)

With the Techstars assessment well underway in the Knoxville region, we thought Roberts’ insights were worth a good read.
