Ryan Ebanks’ Green Routine helps clients evaluate energy decisions and act

"At the end of the day, I want Green Routine to be the trusted source for energy intelligence. Within the next five years, whenever an organization wants to make an important energy decision, Green Routine should be the name they think about," said founder Ryan Ebanks.

Ryan Ebanks

Ryan Ebanks is the founder of Green Routine, a unified content and advisory ecosystem that translates complex energy data into practical strategy, enabling leaders to reduce costs, manage risk and deploy capital with confidence.

He is currently participating in Knoxville Entrepreneur Center‘s WORKS Accelerator, but he’s no stranger to entrepreneurship.

From Jamaica to the Knoxville-area

Sitting down for coffee to learn more about Ebanks and Green Routine, it’s clear that he doesn’t have the southern twang so many of us do. So what brought him to the South?

“I’m from Jamaica and was headhunted by the Alcoa company,” he explained. “They brought me to their facility to do a resiliency analysis of the infrastructure through my other startup and ended up offering me a spot on their team.”

That’s right, Ebanks has had multiple startups. In fact, Green Routine is his third company.

“In Jamaica, I had two other businesses that I built, sold and exited,” said Ebanks. “Green Routine is basically the culmination of my 25 years of unique experience spanning the U.S. and different continents. Over the years, I have curated a lot of information that’s been very beneficial to some of my larger clients. What I’m trying to do is democratize that information and make it accessible to regular businesses.”

Turning data overload into a clear next step

Ebanks’ main takeaway from 25 years in the industry? The core problem isn’t a lack of energy data. It’s too much of it, with no clear direction on what to do next.

“People tend to be overwhelmed by data,” he said. “So many energy intelligence agencies just highlight the problem. My platform tells you the next step. We map it end to end: if you do these five projects, this is the biggest bang for your buck, this is the return and this is how it reduces risk.”

One client consolidated from three facilities to two after Green Routine freed up capacity. Another client with an EV fleet now charges overnight on lower time-of-use rates.

“A lot of people think energy management is just cutting back,” Ebanks said. “Sometimes it’s really about timing, or doing things smarter.” For industrial clients, that timing pays off even more. Shifting to an afternoon or evening shift can cut energy charges by 60% under certain tariff structures.

Client testimonials

This is the kind of actionable analysis that turns Ebanks’ first-time customers into long-term clients. He currently has a handful of these long-term consulting clients, but Green Routine has other revenue streams as well. He has books for sell, workshops, courses and more.

Looking ahead

Ebanks is stationed at the 121 Tech Hub. Through the WORKS accelerator, he hopes to keep networking, open doors to funding and hone his technical message so it lands with any audience. That accessibility matters to him because he sees an energy crisis coming.

“You hear about an energy boom coming in East Tennessee,” he said. “But to someone with my background, if that boom isn’t prepped for well, it becomes an energy crisis instead. I want to get ahead of it, like paddling ahead of a wave before it breaks. It probably won’t hit for another five years, but now is the time to prepare.”

Helping clients find realistic ways to prep is exactly what Green Routine was built for.
