Real estate leader debuts a time-awareness mobile app called ‘Timeability’

The idea for the app is to be a mirror into the life you live to encourage self-reflection and more intentional living.

On top of dedicating time to lead the largest residential real estate brokerage in East Tennessee, Justin Bailey, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Realty Executives, has also launched a new mobile app designed to help users better understand how they spend their time.

Justin Bailey

Bailey calls the app “Timeability.” It’s not a time management tool, per se, but rather a time awareness platform—something he describes as a mirror, not a manager.

“The goal isn’t to tell users how to spend their time,” Bailey said. “It serves as a mirror—or a window—into where our minutes are going each day. From there, users can decide for themselves if they’re spending time wisely.”

The concept for Timeability was born out of Bailey’s Executive MBA program at Harvard Business School. The assignment was to develop an innovative product or service that could benefit your industry. For Bailey, time management in the real estate world was top of mind.

He manages about 1,040 agents across 12 counties and 18 offices in East Tennessee.

“I worry a lot about our high performers,” he said. “I want people to also spend time with their families and be intentional about it. But real estate is a hard industry to find a balance in.”

That concern turned into a year-long project: building an app that doesn’t force behavior changes, but instead prompts reflection. Timeability uses a combination of location tracking, screen time data, and manual input to provide users with insights into how—and where—they’re spending their time.

From Therapist-in-Training to Real Estate CEO

Bailey’s interest in mental and emotional wellness goes back to college. He earned his undergraduate degree in counseling and originally planned to open a private practice.

“I always tell people I went to school to be a therapist and ended up being a CEO who needs therapy,” he joked. “But my interest in mental and emotional health never went away.”

To earn income while working toward his counseling goals, Bailey obtained his real estate license. But what was supposed to be temporary turned into a calling—and eventually, a career.

Bailey worked as an agent at Realty Executives from 2009 to 2016, before launching his own firm, Bailey & Co., which grew to support around 50 agents.

In 2020, Realty Executives acquired Bailey & Co., and Bailey was named CEO of Realty Executives.

To add to his plate, Bailey was elected President of East Tennessee Realtors for the 2024–2025 term.

Through all the changes, his passion for supporting people never faltered.

Designing Timeability

Timeability isn’t about telling users to change—it’s about asking better questions.

“A good therapist doesn’t tell you what to do. They ask questions to help you learn the next best move for yourself,” Bailey said.

To build the app, Bailey enlisted the help of two colleagues at Realty Executives: Kyle Basila, who was recently promoted to the Vice President and Head of Brand and Operations at Realty Executives. He led the design and branding portion of the Timeability app. And Daniel Park, who focused on app development and user experience, by tapping into his educational background in Psychology and Organizational Leadership.

Key features of the app include:

  • Location-based insights: Using WiFi signals and cell towers, the app can distinguish between work, home, and other locations over time.
  • Manual daily check-ins: Users can specify how they spent blocks of time to get a clearer picture of how they spent their time at each location.
  • Weekly summaries: At the end of each week, users receive a report showing how their time was divided.
  • Accountability partners: Users can opt to share their weekly reports with a trusted friend, colleague, or therapist.

“I’ll hear a lot of users say they didn’t realize how much they were working—even when they’re at home,” Bailey said. “That’s the idea: for the app to be a mirror into the life you live.”

While Timeability has gained early traction among real estate agents, Bailey says it’s also proving useful in the counseling industry. Some therapists are now recommending the app to their patients and signing on as accountability partners.

“I’ve spoken to therapists who believe this is a great tool for their patients,” he said. “It gives them more to discuss during their sessions.”

Access to the app is priced at $5.99 for a full year. Bailey said the price point is intentionally low.

“The primary goal of the app is to help people live the life they want. If the app is financially successful, then that will come from getting the first part right .”
