Protomet Corporation expands operations in East TN

Protomet will create 250 new jobs and invest $25 million in the new facilities in Rockwood.

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, alongside Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter, revealed exciting news for the state’s economic landscape. Protomet Corporation, a renowned manufacturing, engineering, and technology entity based in Loudon, Tennessee, is set to broaden its footprint in East Tennessee. This expansion will see the establishment of engineering and manufacturing operations in Rockwood, marking a significant stride in the region’s economic growth.

The announcement comes with a promise of substantial job creation and investment. Protomet is slated to generate 250 new job opportunities while injecting a notable $25 million into the venture. The company is acquiring and renovating the former Albahealth building on North Gateway Avenue, breathing new life into the area and revitalizing its industrial potential.

The decision to expand into Rockwood underscores Protomet’s commitment to innovation and growth. The upcoming facility in Roane County is poised to be state-of-the-art. This strategic expansion not only bolsters Protomet’s operational capacity but also enhances its ability to serve a diverse clientele across sectors such as automotive, boating, and homeland security.

“We are excited to announce the creation of our fourth engineering and manufacturing facility in East Tennessee as we partner with the great people of Rockwood to build a bigger future together.” said Protomet Corporation’s President Jeff Bohanan.

Protomet’s expansion into Rockwood is not merely a milestone for the corporation; it represents a significant win for Tennessee’s economic development efforts. With this move, Protomet is poised to employ over 500 Tennesseans, further solidifying its position as a major contributor to the state’s workforce and economy.

“Tennessee’s strong business climate is strengthened and shaped by companies like Protomet, and I am proud to take part in announcing this expansion. I thank Protomet for its commitment to the state’s skilled workforce and for creating greater opportunity across East Tennessee,” said Governor Bill Lee.

This announcement also reflects the broader success of economic development initiatives in East Tennessee. Since 2020, the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) has been instrumental in supporting nearly 50 economic development projects in the region. These endeavors have resulted in approximately 9,000 job commitments and a staggering $2.6 billion in capital investment, underscoring the region’s appeal as a prime destination for businesses seeking growth opportunities.
