PitchBook identifies vertical winners and losers in 2022

You win some, you lose some.

If you were wondering which sectors fared best in 2022 from an investment perspective, PitchBook has the answer.

“There is no denying that 2022 has been a challenging year for start-ups,” Marina Temkin writes in this article. “But it has not been equally difficult for every sector of the VC (venture capital)-backed ecosystem.”

She characterized the “relative laggards” as EdTech, eCommerce, AgTech, and FinTech. Conversely, the “relative leaders” started with Crypto and Blockchain, although she noted the likely chilling effect of bankruptcies of the vertical in 2023. Others sectors that did well HealthTech and ClimateTech.
