Next step in Knoxville effort to grow more angels is a May 17 event focused on accredited investors
The Knoxville Chamber is hosting a lunch meeting on May 17 focused on accredited investors and others who are interested in an exclusive preview of the “Techstars Industries of the Future Accelerator.”
Sponsored by the Sheltowee Angel Network, the event is designed to further advance the development of a more robust angel investor base in the community. It follows the Chamber’s recent three-part angel investor series and the ever-evolving entrepreneurial ecosystem in the Knoxville-Oak Ridge region that includes:
- Several locally-based funds (The Lighthouse Fund, Veteran Ventures Capital, and Marble City Angels on the angel side, Three Roots Capital on the venture and debt side) as well as several local members of angel funds like Queen City Angels;
- A strong entrepreneurial support system (Knoxville Entrepreneur Center, Anderson Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and the Spark Innovation Center); and
- Three vibrant accelerators (“Innovation Crossroads” program, “Spark Cleantech Accelerator,” and Techstars).
The accelerators put Knoxville on a national stage with three programs recruiting either national or both nationally and globally. Success of the companies coming here or starting here is critical to expanding the local entrepreneurial “ecosystem,” our regional economy, and our start-up culture by capitalizing on the important innovations being developed here daily.
