New Covenant Health campus to bring comprehensive healthcare to Alcoa
Covenant Health leaders said the campus represents one of the system’s most significant outpatient investments across its 25-county service area.
The clouds hung heavy with rain on Wednesday afternoon. Puddles muddied the freshly leveled dirt and gravel lot on Tesla Boulevard in Alcoa. Toward the front of the property, a white tent stood as a bright spot against the gray sky. Inside, dozens of smiling business leaders, healthcare professionals, and grateful community members gathered with excitement.
Why? Bruce M. Applegate, Jr., Alcoa’s City Manager, said it best: “Thanks to Covenant Health, our community is going to be able to have medical services locally, instead of having to drive into a different market.”
Wednesday’s groundbreaking was for Covenant Health’s new Springbrook campus. The Alcoa-based 60,000-square-foot medical facility was designed to provide comprehensive care close to home. The project is a partnership among Covenant Health, Knoxville Orthopaedic Clinic, and Realty Trust Group (RTG). RTG oversees development, financing, and construction.
Covenant Health leaders said the campus represents one of the system’s most significant outpatient investments across its 25-county service area.
“Our vision is to make Alcoa a hub for advanced, patient-centered care where technology, expertise, and compassion come together,” said Jim VanderSteeg, Covenant Health’s Chief Executive Officer.

What to expect from the newest healthcare provider in Alcoa?
The campus sits across from Alcoa Food City on Tesla Boulevard, just off Alcoa Highway, providing easy access for patients.
Services at the Springbrook campus will include urgent care, primary care, cardiology, medical oncology, infusion therapy, physical therapy, diagnostic imaging, and time-share clinic space. And, it will also feature an orthopaedic clinic with room for future expansion.

Phase one of the project includes a two-story building with physician offices. The first floor will house urgent care, physical therapy, cardiac rehabilitation, and an orthopaedic clinic operated by Knoxville Orthopaedic Clinic. The second floor will include a primary care clinic, cardiology, and medical oncology with infusion services.
Phase two will continue development of the current location, though specific plans have not yet been announced.
“We are dedicated to delivering high-quality, compassionate healthcare that Blount County families can trust,” VanderSteeg said. “The development of this medical campus demonstrates a step forward for our mission to improve quality of life through better health.”
And on a rainy afternoon, that promise of better care close to home was enough to make the clouds feel a little lighter.
