New business sprouting up in Knoxville, with city-approved tax break

The approved entertainment venue was voted into reality during Tuesday night;s city council meeting.

A proposed upscale driving range is in the works for North Knoxville. Utilizing help from the city of Knoxville, a company called Knox OnCore LLC, plans to transform a neglected property into a bustling entertainment destination, which they predict will create over 200 employment opportunities.

The envisioned ShotClub Social, similar to the TopGolf in Turkey Creek, will span 40,000 square feet and occupy 10.5 acres of land situated to the east of Interstate 275 and north of West Fifth Avenue, adjacent to Second Creek.

On Tuesday, the Knoxville City Council endorsed a nine-year payment plan in lieu of taxes for Knox OnCore LLC. The approval came with a 7-1 vote, with councilmember Seema Singh opposing it. Councilmember Amelia Parker was not present for the vote.

The redevelopment of the former industrial site is projected to require an investment of approximately $30.7 million, which was reported at the meeting on Tuesday night.
