Minnesota receives $87 million from DoD for bioindustrial manufacturing initiative
A new partnership involving both the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and BioMADE, a non-profit organization, will support the design and operation of a new Manufacturing Innovation Institute located on the St. Paul campus of the University of Minnesota.
The new space on campus will help grow the bioindustrial manufacturing industry through connecting organizations with research resources. DoD contributed more than $87 million to the effort. Bioindustrial manufacturing is a process that utilizes microbes, like yeast and bacteria, to create chemicals that are used to create other products such as fabrics, detergents and plastics.
