Michael Walton named to the White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council

The Chattanooga resident is one of 12 new appointees to the group.

Michael Walton, General Manager of Energy Transition Finance LLC, a Chattanooga-based strategic advisory firm committed to accelerating the deployment of clean energy technologies, is one of a dozen individulas who are being appointed to the White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council (WHEJAC).

Created by Executive Order 14008 issued by President Joe Biden on January 27, 2021, the advisory group provides advice and recommendations to the White House Environmental Justice Interagency Council and the Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality on how to address current and historic environmental injustice. The establishment of the WHEJAC marked the first time that a Presidential advisory body had been tasked with providing recommendations to the federal government on environmental justice.

Walton has a strong background in environmental areas. He is also a Partner in Emerald Operating Partners, has served for a decade as a mentor in the Cleantech Open, and previously served for more than nine years as Executive Director of Green Spaces. The latter is a non-profit organization that improves economic, social, and environmental resilience, with a focus on empowering the most vulnerable communities in Tennessee.

In the announcement of his appointment, the White House noted that “Walton brings experience in business, community sustainability improvement, and energy innovation advancement to the Council.”
