Memphis Chamber, U of Memphis announce unique alliance to recruit business
The Greater Memphis Chamber and the University of Memphis have announced a unique partnership dedicated to the growth of the Memphis economy.
Under the arrangement, Ted Townsend, a former Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer of Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, will serve as Chief Economic Development Officer where he will focus on the partnership full-time.
Townsend currently serves as the university’s Chief Economic Development and Government Relations Officer. In addition, he is Chair of the Board of Directors of Life Science Tennessee.
In his new role as described in this news release, Townsend will lead an integrated chamber and university team that will strategically recruit businesses within targeted industry sectors by promoting Memphis’ expansive assets including the highly-trained workforce prepared by both the University of Memphis and the broader set of regional education and training partners.
