LDA Engineering helps East Tennessee students build mock future cities
The annual Future City competition brings together middle school students from across the region to problem-solve complex city planning.
In one of the most educationally engaging events of the year, LDA Engineering has arranged its eighth Future City competition for students across the region. It challenges student teams to imagine, design, and build cities of the future. The event encourages middle school teams to imagine and create floating cities of the future while keeping citizens healthy and safe.
By doing this, they need to equip engineering knowledge, and sustainable practices by creating the whole model out of recycled materials costing less than $100. The regional competition is designed to inspire problem-solvers of the future while addressing issues related to climate change.
The science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) competition will be held this morning, Jan. 18, at the Zeanah Engineering Complex at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) Tickle College of Engineering. Participants can win awards and vie for a spot at the finals in Washington, D.C.
The 2025 theme is “Above the Current,” which is why the student teams are creating floating cities.
