Four barriers face agrifood start-ups

All require careful allocation of financial resources.

With the Cultivate Appalachia Bootcamp scheduled for next week in Knoxville, we found this article particularly timely. It comes from a site called AgFunder News and addresses how to overcome the four big barriers to commercialization faced by agrifood start-ups.

They are:

  • Failing to understand the target audience;
  • Lack of marketing;
  • Insufficient in-house talent; and
  • Inability to keep up with demand.

What do each of these have in common? They require lots of money.

“This challenge is especially important now, as global agrifoodtech investment has dropped significantly compared to previous years and capital is tough to come by for many start-ups,” the article’s author writes. “Investors in 2024 want to ensure solid returns, so start-ups must be as honest as possible about their capital allocation.”

The bootcamp runs June 11-14.
