Clarksville and Vanderbilt University awarded first TNGO grant
The initiative involves the use of LiDAR sensor technology to enhance traffic safety.
Last week, Clarksville unveiled new LiDAR sensor technology to enhance traffic safety—thanks to a TNGO grant awarded to Vanderbilt University.
Officially known as the Transportation Network Growth Opportunity, TNGO is an initiative under the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development in partnership with Launch Tennessee and Team Tennessee. Its goal is connect statewide research assets, communities, and talent to spark new research and innovation in this sector.
LiDAR creates precise 3D LiDAR creates precise 3D models of traffic patterns to improve signal timings, optimize flow, and reduce accidents.
This project, a collaboration between Vanderbilt, Clarksville, Austin Peay State University, Ouster Inc., Nashville Department of Transportation & Multimodal Infrastructure, Tennessee State University, and The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, was funded in TNGO’s inaugural round to address key mobility challenges.
