City Detect helps local governments keep-up with blighted areas

Hypepotamus has spotlighted an artificial intelligence-based technology born in the Department of Economics at the University of Alabama that is described as “ready to hit the streets to help fight blight.”

Think boarded-up windows, boarded-up doors, overgrown grass, and other depreciated properties which have both direct and indirect impacts on a city’s overall economic development efforts, and that’s the focus of City Detect, according to Co-Founder Erik Johnson. One goal for the start-up is to help cities better understand how to find property violations and blighted properties more efficiently.
