Eleven of the 19 companies from the city that made the list are in that sector. The Knoxville region added another 11 to the compilation including 15-year veteran of the list, KaTom Restaurant Supply.

Yale University and University of Connecticut join forces to leverage quantum computing assets, while two other universities advance their battery initiatives.

Three of the five are from the Southeast, and a fourth is from neighboring Virginia.

State legislators appropriate $1.4 billion for the "Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund" and initiatives at UT-Austin and Texas A&M.

The organization that now has two locations is in the midst of the celebration that culminates on September 22.

Developed by researchers at NC State, the tool is designed to help regulators, phone carriers and other stakeholders better understand and monitor robocall trends – and take action against related criminal activity.

The funding came through the agency's "Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research" (EPSCoR) initiative to build research capacity.
