River Valley Health could serve thousands through its new clinic in Knoxville’s Mechanicsville neighborhood

River Valley Health, formerly Cherokee Health Systems, has opened its newest 'GetWellNow' walk-in clinic in Knoxville’s Mechanicsville neighborhood, located at 601 College Street.

River Valley Health has officially opened a new clinic in Knoxville’s Mechanicsville neighborhood, expanding access to medical and behavioral healthcare for underserved residents. The Knoxville Chamber hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday to celebrate the launch, joined by River Valley Health Chief Executive Officer Dr. Parinda Khatri, Knoxville Mayor Indya Kincannon, and other community leaders.

Located in a newly renovated 2,500-square-foot facility, the ‘GetWellNow’ clinic includes five primary care exam rooms, three behavioral health offices, and an on-site laboratory. Recent upgrades also include a repaved parking lot to improve accessibility and convenience for patients.

“We know sometimes people need to access care without an appointment, and in an accessible location,” said Khatri. “The new GetWellNow clinic in Mechanicsville is embedded in the community, with easy access on the bus line, and is available to our established patients as well as those who are new to our system. I remember visiting the original clinic over 20 years ago and feeling the strong sense of mission and community connection. We are so pleased and honored to bring back medical and behavioral care to a place with deep roots in the Mechanicsville neighborhood.”

River Valley Health provides care to all patients, regardless of their ability to pay. Leaders expect the clinic to serve thousands of patients annually through a wide range of services, including:

  • Walk-in medical and behavioral health care
  • Primary care for children 6 months and older
  • Annual check-ups for children ages 4 and up
  • Behavioral health services for adults, including triage, crisis management, and pediatric referrals
  • Alcohol and drug assessments (Mondays and Thursdays, 12:30–3:30 p.m.)
  • Psychiatric care (Fridays, 8 a.m.–12 p.m.)

“This is another great example of what can happen when we all work together,” said Mayor Kincannon. “We are so happy to support River Valley Health and its newest GetWellNow clinic in Mechanicsville. This new clinic will help make sure that all Knoxvillians have access to quality healthcare.”

The building itself has a long history of serving Knoxville’s underserved populations. Originally launched two decades ago as a nonprofit, faith-based clinic by the Knoxville Leadership Foundation, the site now continues that legacy under River Valley Health’s integrated care model.

The clinic began seeing patients during a soft opening on Sept. 12 and is designed to provide urgent, accessible healthcare services to the community.

River Valley Health is also a client of PYA, the power behind Teknovation.
