Florida Atlantic receives another $1.6 million from long-time Boca Raton resident.

From the University of Kentucky:

UK Innovate celebrated the achievements of innovators across campus at Patent Palooza! 2025.

These researchers, entrepreneurs, and industry partners all drive intellectual property creation, commercialization success, and entrepreneurial growth at the University of Kentucky (UK). In Fiscal Year (FY) 2025, UK saw the most patents issued, the most licenses executed, and the second-most inventions disclosed in UK history.

In FY 2025, 29 teams completed Launch Blue’s UAccel program, and more than 100 UK innovators were issued 61 patents, had 40 licenses and options executed for their innovations, and received four Small Business Innovation Research/Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR) awards.

From Florida Atlantic University:

Florida Atlantic University (FAU) received a $1.6 million gift from long-time Boca Raton resident Bob Schattner, which will be used to continue providing scholarships that he established 15 years ago in perpetuity. He established the Robert L. Schattner Entrepreneurial Scholarship in Business in 2010 to support students with financial need who have taken at least one entrepreneur class and who may start their own companies one day. To date, the scholarships have benefitted more than 30 students. He also established a separate fund to aid any student who faces life challenges that could derail their pursuit of higher education.

“Bob generously donated his time, talent, and treasures to support students in our College of Business over the past 15 years, and we truly appreciate him embracing Florida Atlantic as his hometown university,” said FAU President Adam Hasner. “This most recent contribution will carry on Bob’s legacy of helping today’s students become the business leaders of the future.”

From North Carolina State University:

The new North Carolina State (NC State) Graduate Certificate in Innovation and Entrepreneurship will prepare students to initiate and manage new organizational opportunities and innovative ventures. Developed through a collaboration between Poole College of Management and NC State Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the certificate is now open to graduate students from all NC State majors.

This certificate helps students — including those in non-business fields — transform ideas into viable ventures while also complementing their technical skills with in-demand management expertise. It will be delivered in hybrid and online formats.

“Essential foundations and hands-on experience are critical factors to create value in organizations,” says Stephen Markham, Executive Director of NC State Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and the Goodnight Distinguished Professor in Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Poole College. “These career-enhancing skills are just as important in startups as they are for corporate innovation.”

From Florida State University:

Florida State University’s Jim Moran College of Entrepreneurship (JMC)the nation’s first standalone college of entrepreneurship at a public university, earned a #3 ranking among public institutions on Niche’s 2026 Best Colleges with Entrepreneurship Degrees in America.

The high ranking puts JMC in an exclusive club of public schools offering the best entrepreneurship programs in the country. Among public and private institutions, JMC was rated 10th — another strong selling point for a college known for its innovation.

“This national recognition reflects the dedication of our students, faculty and staff who bring entrepreneurial thinking to life every day,” said Susan Fiorito, Dean of the Jim Moran College of Entrepreneurship. “We’re proud to see JMC continue to rise as a leader in innovative, hands-on education that prepares students to make a difference in any industry.”

Separately, Florida State’s third annual “Discovery Days,” a weeklong celebration of research, creativity, and innovation, is underway. Through October 25, the event will feature more than 25 events showcasing the variety of work done across the university.

“Discovery Days is a vibrant reflection of the intellectual energy and collaborative spirit that defines Florida State,” said Stacey S. Patterson, Vice President for Research. “From start-up launches and clinical pitches to STEM career panels and rocket science for kids, this week invites our community to explore the many ways FSU research transforms lives.”

From the University of Wisconsin-Madison:

The College of Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison has named its first-ever Associate Dean for Corporate Engagement and Entrepreneurship, a bold first step in igniting an enhanced corporate engagement and entrepreneurial culture designed for impact.

To fill the new role, the College has named Oliver Schmitz, current holder of the Thomas and Suzanne Werner Chair Professor in Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics, Co-Founder of Realta Fusion, former Associate Dean for Research Innovation, and Director of the Grainger Institute for Engineering. He has forged partnerships that go beyond traditional research approaches, through the statewide network of the Clean Energy Community Initiative, and by supporting the formation of the campuswide Wisconsin CHIPS Center. He also formed the college’s Office of Corporate Relations (OCR) and the Technology Entrepreneurship Office (TEO).
