Giggs captures a win and $5,000 in the Sloss.Tech/Ideas Pitch Competition
The Nashville-based company, founded by Nikki Sanz, connects vetted backstage professionals with top companies.
A Nashville start-up that we spotlighted last October in teknovation.biz was one of four category winners in last week’s Sloss.Tech/Ideas Pitch Competition held in Birmingham, AL.
Giggs, founded by Nikki Sanz, is a career platform for the live event industry that connects vetted backstage professionals with top companies. Within six months of arriving in Music City in 2018, she had secured diverse gigs with Live Nation, the Ryman Auditorium, CMA Fest, and landed her first tour with Eric Church. Sanz says the experience resulted in what she characterizes as constant “gigxiety” – the perpetual need to find the next gig to further her career and make ends meet.
She won the category of Emerging Tech and a $5,000 prize.
In a post on social media, Sanz wrote, “I’m genuinely in awe of the other founders who competed – so many are building tech that’s changing (and saving) the world. From curing diabetes & cancer, to AI, to reimagining community, the talent in that room was something special.”
WiNK Therapeutics, a Miramar, FL-based biotechnology company, won the grand prize and $50,000 in funding at the conclusion of the three-day Sloss Tech conference. The competition, funded by a grant from the Regions Foundation, featured 16 finalists from across the Southeast competing for a total of $75,000 in prizes.
The $10,000 People’s Choice Award went to HERide of Atlanta, the women-first rideshare platform that connects women riders with women drivers for a trusted, empowering experience.
