Record crowd attends yesterday’s “Nuclear Opportunities Workshop”

More than 200 people turned out yesterday for the “Nuclear Opportunities Workshop” organized by the East Tennessee Economic Council with sponsorship support from a number of organizations that have a stake in the region’s long-standing place in the sector and the nuclear renaissance that is occurring.

We’ll have a full report on the all-day event, held at Bridgewater Place in West Knoxville, in tomorrow’s edition of teknovation.biz. It was a return of the popular workshop after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, and a record crowd turned-out. There was a keynote address, four panels and a number of networking opportunities, particularly for those seeking talent and prospective employees looking for opportunities. The panels focused on:

  1. Advanced Reactors: Lessons learned in the early days of advanced reactors;
  2. Nuclear Fuels: Nuclear fuel demand and development;
  3. Radioisotopes: Impact and processes of radioisotope production; and
  4. Nuclear Workforce: Workforce initiatives and opportunities available to the nuclear industry in East Tennessee.

In advance of tomorrow’s feature article, we wanted to share this graphic from yesterday that shows just how significant is the economic impact of the nuclear sector in this region. There are 146 companies listed on the slide, and 125 have a presence in East Tennessee.
