400+ people gather for a Community Day at the TMC, on heels of $60M investment
Congressman Fleischmann, Chair of the House Nuclear Cleanup Caucus, praised Centrus Energy for its investment in East Tennessee and emphasized how the Oak Ridge region is helping lead America’s clean energy transition.
More than 400 people gathered in Oak Ridge last week for Centrus Energy’s Community Day. It was a celebration that showcased the company’s innovation to the greater Oak Ridge community.
The event was hosted at the Technology & Manufacturing Center (TMC), and offered a rare behind-the-scenes look at one of the most advanced nuclear manufacturing sites in the country. The TMC is the only U.S. facility where commercial uranium enrichment centrifuges are built.
Guests were treated to interactive exhibits from the Knoxville Utilities Board (KUB), fire truck demonstrations by the Oak Ridge Fire Department, activities for children, free lunch, raffle prizes, and guided tours through Centrus’ sprawling 440,000-square-foot facility.

The day also included remarks from key leaders, including Congressman Chuck Fleischmann, Centrus President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Amir Vexler, and Larry Cutlip, the Senior Vice President of Centrus.
Fleischmann, who chairs the House Nuclear Cleanup Caucus, praised Centrus for its continued investment in the region and emphasized Oak Ridge’s pivotal role in America’s clean energy future.
“This community powers some of the most advanced nuclear manufacturing in the world,” said Vexler during his remarks. “What’s happening in Oak Ridge is at the heart of a national effort to restore America’s ability to enrich uranium.”
Vexler also highlighted the importance of collaboration with local partners and the broader impact of the company’s work across the U.S. energy landscape.
The event came on the heels of a major announcement: Centrus is investing $60 million to expand its Oak Ridge manufacturing operations. The expansion will support potential large-scale enrichment work at the company’s American Centrifuge Plant in Piketon, Ohio, helping lay the groundwork for strengthened national energy security.
