The University of Virginia, which is located in Charlottesville, has joined with the city and Albemarle County to create the “Catalyst Accelerator Program” to provide staff, workspace, advisers, programming and $20,000 grants for start-up businesses with a high potential of quick expansion.
In the next two years, the initiative is expected to select and support 20 early stage companies for the nine-month program. Applications for the first cohort open today and close August 23. The first class begins in the fall.
