UTHSC researcher and entrepreneur wins “People’s Choice Award” in second pitch competition
The latest issue of UTRF News from the University of Tennessee (UT) Research Foundation spotlights the work of a faculty member and start-up entrepreneur at the UT Health Science Center (UTHSC) in Memphis.
Monica Jablonski is the Hamilton Professor and Vice Chair and Director of Research at UTHSC’s Hamilton Eye Institute. She studies glaucoma, the number one cause of irreversible blindness with three million people around the country currently being treated for the disease. Her start-up, OculoTherapy, offers a novel treatment, Calseetra, that addresses failures of current glaucoma medications.
With encouragement from UTRF, Jablonski recently participated in “Equalize 2022.” It is a virtual mentor program and pitch competition designed to take national action around the disparity of women academic inventors forming university startups. Participating in what was only her second pitch competition, she secured the “People’s Choice Award” in the therapeutics category.
