UT, Knoxville delivers on its promise to recruit world-renowned faculty

It's an investment in faculty who will help shape the future of research and innovation.

As promised in a presentation to the University of Tennessee (UT) Board of Trustees at the beginning of July, UT, Knoxville is launching a major new effort to recruit world-renowned faculty across academic disciplines. The multiple-year initiative will directly support UT’s rise as a leader in research, innovation and discovery.

The initiative comes at a pivotal moment.

“From nuclear energy to cancer treatments, the discoveries and solutions we provide Tennesseans demonstrate the value of public land-grant research universities,” said Chancellor Donde Plowman. “We have built a lot of momentum over the past few years, and with those successes have come even bigger ambitions. Others are taking notice and want to be part of the work we’re doing.”

The Knoxville campus is particularly interested in recruiting faculty whose expertise aligns with the university’s research priorities, including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, quantum computing, nuclear energy and security, radiopharmaceuticals, health and wellness, energy and the environment, and other high-impact fields. Distinguished scholars in all disciplines will also be considered.

“This effort builds on the momentum we’ve created over the past several years,” said Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor John Zomchick. “We are investing in faculty who will help shape the future of research and innovation at UT(K), and who will mentor the next generation of scholars and leaders.”
