Two upcoming conferences will showcase the region’s assets

Two conferences have been announced that should be of interest to our readers. One is in Chicago, but with a virtual option; the other is in Oak Ridge.

“Nuclear Opportunities Workshop”:

The East Tennessee Economic Council’s nuclear suppliers event returns at the first of August as the “Nuclear Opportunities Workshop” (NOW). It begins with an evening reception on August 1 and continues all day on August 2 featuring discussions on the opportunities and issues around four key topics: (1) advanced reactors; (2) nuclear fuels; (3) nuclear workforce; and (4) radioisotopes.

Registration information can be found here.

“LEEP Summit”:

The U.S. Department of Energy and its Lab-Embedded Entrepreneurship Program (LEEP) have announced the inaugural “LEEP Summit,” a two-day event beginning July 11. It will be held at the Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk Hotel as an in-person event but will support remote participation, too.

More than 50 start-ups are expected to participate in the Summit which will include a Clean Energy Fair, an Inclusive Innovation Panel, a Climate Tech Town Hall, and a Demo Day for graduating LEEP innovators. Those start-ups include companies participating in the “Innovation Crossroads” (IC) program operated by Oak Ridge National Laboratory. IC is one of the four LEEP programs. The others are Cyclotron Road (Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory), Chain Reaction Innovations (Argonne National Laboratory), and West Gate (National Renewable Energy Laboratory).

Dan Miller, ORNL’s Program Lead for the IC initiative, serves on the “LEEP Summit” Organizing Committee along with colleague Kelly Wampler.
