Two start-ups share $75,000 in latest “Alabama Launchpad” competition

Two Birmingham-based start-ups captured the top prizes in the latest “Alabama Launchpad” competition hosted by the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama. The event was held at the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology in Huntsville.

  • Ride Resorts, a pay-to-ride mountain biking resort developer that pairs with landowners to design and build mountain bike experiences on the property, won the $25,000 concept stage prize; and
  • TaxxWiz, which recently moved from Dallas to Birmingham, won the $50,000, early seed stage round. It is described as a company that partners with individuals and small businesses to offer strong tax preparation, bookkeeping, financial, and accounting services.

Through the “Alabama Launchpad” program, EDPA has funded 108 start-ups, and those companies boast post-money valuations of more than $850 million.
