Two Northeast TN organizations are latest recipients of ARC POWER grants

Two Northeast Tennessee organizations are among 51 organizations sharing $43.3 million under the latest awards from the POWER (Partnerships for Opportunity and Workforce and Economic Revitalization) Initiative of the Appalachian Regional Commission.

According to last week’s announcement, the investments are projected to create or retain more than 3,300 jobs, attract over $110 million in leveraged private investment, and be matched by $81.5 million in additional public and private funds.

Northeast Tennessee recipients are:

  • Erwin Utilities received $400,333 for the Northern Unicoi County Broadband project that will provide gigabit service to Unicoi County residents and businesses not currently served by a broadband or cable provider. More than 17 miles of fiber will be placed on Erwin Utilities’ existing power poles.
  • The Northeast Tennessee Regional Foundation for Economic
    Development, Innovation, and Outdoor Recreation (NETRF) in Johnson City was awarded $44,450 for the Northeast Tennessee Regional Outdoor Development Strategic Plan.
