Several Tennessee entities awarded grants under EDA’s “CARES Act Recovery Assistance” program

The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) announced late last week that it was awarding “CARES Act Recovery Assistance” grants to several Tennessee entities.

On Friday, Tennessee Technological University (TTU) in Cookeville was awarded $300,000 to boost its capacity to support regional economic development strategies in response to the coronavirus pandemic. No further details were provided in this news release other than a mention that TTU operates one of EDA’s University Center programs.

Also on Friday and the day before, the South Central Tennessee Development District and the First Tennessee Development District in Johnson City were awarded $400,000 each to update economic development plans and fortify programs to assist communities in responding to the coronavirus pandemic.
