TRISO-X grows Oak Ridge campus by 70 acres, now totaling a 180-acre footprint
The expansion further positions East Tennessee as the "Nuclear Epicenter" of the U.S.
Aug. 4 kicked off the East Tennessee Economic Council‘s NOW Conference — which stands for “Nuclear Opportunities Workshop.” The whole point of the event is right there in the name: nuclear isn’t coming to Tennessee someday. It’s here now.
How fitting that on the same day, TRISO-X, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of X-energy, Inc. (Nasdaq: XE), made an announcement that drove that point home.
The company has acquired approximately 70 acres of land adjacent to its commercial nuclear fuel campus in Oak Ridge’s Horizon Center Industrial Park to support the continued development of their fuel fabrication campus.
Prior, their footprint sat at 125 acres. With the boosted acreage to 180 acres, there’s increased opportunity and space for utility corridors, equipment staging, fuel storage and long-term expansion capacity.

East Tennessee is our home, and the strength of our local partners has also made it the home of American leadership in advanced nuclear fuels. We’re grateful for the work and leadership of the Oak Ridge Industrial Development Board to ensure that the next generation of American nuclear innovation grows and thrives here in Oak Ridge,” said Joel Duling, President of TRISO-X.
This announcement follows a plethora of recent momentum for TRISO-X:
- In February, TRISO-X secured the first fuel fabrication license of its kind in more than 50 years, clearing the regulatory path to commercially manufacture high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) fuel.
- In July, they received an award from Gov. Bill Lee’s Nuclear Energy Fund to support the continued development of their fuel fabrication campus, including a planned second commercial fuel facility and a dedicated research and development center. This $11 million grant is expected to create more than 1,100 jobs.
At the rate that TRISO-X has been making headlines, we can expect even more continued economic and community growth from this advanced nuclear fuel maker sooner rather than later.
