Thrive Regional Partnership awarded nearly $2.9 million

The monies will be used to expand three programs offered by the Chattanooga-based organization.

The Thrive Regional Partnership Inc., an organization focused on serving 16 counties across the states of Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee, has been awarded $2,870,702 by the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) to expand three collaborative programs across the region.

The funding, which comes through ARC’s Appalachian Regional Initiative for Stronger Economies (ARISE) and is over a four-year period, will be matched by $2,256,969 from the partners. They are Open Space Institute, The Enterprise Center, Cleveland State Community College, Dalton State College, Catoosa County College & Career Academy, North Alabama Community College, and IMPACT Learning Center.

The monies will be used to expand three programs offered by the Chattanooga-based organization under the umbrella of the Thrive Regional Resource Hub: Driving Connectivity and Resilience in the Cradle of Southern Appalachia. They are: (1) Resilient Communities; (2) Connected Communities; and (3) the Thrive Regional Infrastructure Portal‘s (TRIP) Community & Workforce Development Initiative.

Collectively, they will improve climate resiliency through increased community capacity, identifying
strategies to address the digital equity gap, and enhancing local understanding of regional freight capacity and transport needs.

In addition to the funding for Thrive, ARC also made four other awards under the ARISE program:

  1. $7,030,989 to the Mountain State Educational Services Cooperative to implement a prior ARISE planning project that will introduce middle school students to career-oriented education and experiences, real-world problem-solving skills, and simulated workplace environments.
  2. $3,980,996 to Morehead State University to expand the SpaceTrek initiative, which addresses deficits in the region’s aerospace workforce and encourages women’s participation in the sector.
  3. $500,000 to the Washington Greene County Job Training Agency Inc. to form a Tri-State Consortium to strengthen the workforce capabilities of Appalachians in 40 counties across Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
  4. $192,050 to the HealthPath Foundation of Ohio to plan for the growth of Appalachia’s oral health workforce.
