There’s now an accelerator for pet care start-ups
Austin-based SKU is adding a track to its consumer-packaged goods program in response to growth in the sector. In 2020 the global pet care market size was $207.90 billion and is expected to grow.
With pet ownership continuing to rise and spending on pets in 2022 increasing by nearly 11 percent compared to the prior year, it was only a matter of time before a pet industry-focused accelerator would be announced.
Well, you don’t have to wait any longer. Austin-based SKU, an accelerator program for consumer-packaged goods (CPG) industries, is launching a pet care-dedicated accelerator track that will provide pet industry brands with tailored mentorship to further their growth. In 2020 the global pet care market size was $207.90 billion and is expected to grow to $325.7 billion by 2028, according to Fortune Business Insights.
Founded in 2011, SKU surrounds what is characterized as “stellar start-ups” with a wraparound infrastructure of seasoned mentors, a customized program, advanced operations support, access to industry expertise, and connections to capital.
“SKU has had several pet care alumni go through past tracks, and combined with the exciting growth in the pet care industry now was the perfect time to launch a track dedicated to the pet care space,” said Emily Kealey, Managing Director of SKU. “The 12-week program will include weekly classes focused on helping pet care brands scale, as well as mentoring by seasoned industry executives. Through our mentors, partners, and sponsors, our unique ecosystem gives us the opportunity to accelerate these pet care founders so they can make a lasting change in the industry.”
The program is seeking companies in the pet care space that specialize in apparel, supplies, toys, and food. The accelerator will be offered in a hybrid format with two in-person sessions. Applications are being accepted through June 4, and more information can be found here.
