Tennessee Tech hosting “Faculty Innovator Showcase” on May 10

The event will spotlight faculty inventions that could be valuable for the business and governmental sectors.

Tennessee Tech University (TTU) is planning a “Faculty Innovator Showcase” on the morning of May 10 and is inviting the business and public sector communities to attend.

The two-hour event begins at 10 a.m. CDT in the Roaden University Center on the TTU campus in Cookeville with a trade show. After about 60 minutes, the focus will shift from the showcase of technologies to specific presentations from faculty members on some of the more promising inventions in areas like energy, autonomous vehicles, and second-life batteries.

“Faculty members will describe the problem they have identified and what their solution is,” said Michael Aikens, Director of TTU’s Tennessee Center for Rural Innovation. “We received a small grant from Launch Tennessee’s Tennessee Technology Advancement Consortium (TTAC) to host the showcase.”

He adds that there are several goals for the event.

“It’s not to sell but to create more of an awareness of what Tennessee Tech is doing,” Aikens explains, and that’s where having the business and public sector participation is so important.

A second goal, consistent with the TTAC initiative, is to “create a larger culture of commercialization on campus.” That includes generating more faculty invention disclosures.

Finally, the event will celebrate faculty members and the inventions they have developed.
