Tennessee ranks high in one category related to funding of women-led start-ups, low in another
According to a recent article in Crunchbase News, female-founded companies account for less than one-fourth of venture funding recipients in every U.S. state with a start-up scene, but they’re a lot closer to the top of the spectrum in some states, and much nearer to the bottom in others.
How does the Volunteer State rank? Tennessee was very high in terms of percentage of rounds with female-founded companies at 19 percent. That was four percentage points above the national average and #3 among the top 25, just behind Oregon and Minnesota. That said, the percentage of dollars invested was nowhere near as impressive. Twenty other states outranked Tennessee.
