Techstars Birmingham-based accelerator accepting applications through early June

The three-year-old "EnergyTech Accelerator" will also relocate to the city's iconic Innovation Depot before the next cohort starts in September.

As it prepares to relocate to Innovation Depot this summer, the “Techstars Alabama EnergyTech Accelerator” is accepting applications for its next cohort that starts in September. The deadline to apply is June 7 at this link.

The accelerator, sponsored by Alabama Power, focuses on start-ups addressing innovative electrical and utility solutions. It was launched three years ago, and the relocation will better align it with the Birmingham entrepreneurial epicenter.

Innovation Depot is a nonprofit tech accelerator and incubator created through a public-private partnership in 1987. Now located in a 140,000-square-foot building that previously served as a Sears Department Store, Innovation Depot is home to approximately 110 start-up companies that employ more than 1,500 individuals.

Ironically, Brooke Gillis, Innovation Depot’s current Chief Executive Officer, served since 2020 as Program Manager for the “Techstars Alabama EnergyTech Accelerator” prior to moving over to Innovation Depot in December.
